The firstGolden Glyphmarked a milestone for Quickspin, as it was their very first cluster pays grid slot. They came up with their own unique Power Glyph modifier system, and this is also central to the gameplay in Golden Glyph 2. Instead of the more common winning symbol meter charging system, you get3 unique modifier typesby landing wins with the power glyph wild.
The juiciest modifier is saved for last both in the base game, and in the bonus round, and there are 6 power ups to plough through before you reach those. Visually, the two games are equally solid, with majestic pyramid backdrops that can take your breath away. The same can be said about the29,500xyour stake potential, which is more than twice what’s on offer in the first game.
The regular ‘W’ wild steps in for all pay symbols, and this helps you formwinning clusters with between 5 and 15+ matching symbols. All winning symbols from a cluster are removed, and theTumble Reels featureallows for existing and/or new symbols to drop down to fill the gaps. This also spawns a ‘blue orb’ Power Glyph wild in one of the empty positions.
Whenever you land a winning cluster that involves thePower Glyph wild, you will get aPower Up modifierfrom the sliding reel below the regular grid. If you win more than 1 power up, they are chosen in the order from left to right, and the power up reel slides one step left on each spin to bring in new power up symbols.
You get7 power up symbolson the sliding reel per spin, and the last one to become activated is always the2x3 mega wild modifierin the base game. The other 6 power up symbols that come first in line are either random wilds or symbols removal patterns. Here is an overview:
The Bonus Round is triggered when you land3 scatters anywherein sight, and this awards7 free spins. You get+5 extras spinswhen you land3 scattersduring the feature, and the 7th modifier is now always an extra power glyph wild added to the grid.
You get a single roaming power glyph wild from the start, and it moves randomly to a new position per spin. New power glyphs can be won from the 7th position of the power up reel, and up to 4 can be active on the grid at the same time.
As usual, the power glyph serves as a wild symbol, but now it also comes with aprogressive multiplierthat increases by+1 per winning clusterit’s involved in. The multiplier can go as high as x50 per symbol, and the multipliers are added together if more than one power glyph is involved in the same win.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you can take advantage of the bonus buy option. This is not for UK players however, and it will set you back50x, 150x or 275xyour stake. This awards direct access to the bonus round, with 1, 2 or 3 starting power glyph wilds, respectively. It also increases the RTP to96.30 %, 96.49 % or 96.60 %, respectively.
You get to see the golden scarab modifier at the very beginning, before we purchase the bonus round. Of course, we went with the highest tier option, starting us off with 3 juicy power glyph roaming wilds. The feature plays out for more than 5 minutes, and you can check it all out in the highlights video below.
Quickspin has done a lot of things right with this follow-up title, and fans will hardly be disappointed. The biggest drawback in Golden Glyph 2 is the somewhat lower symbol values. However, having up to 4 progressive multiplier power glyphs active in the bonus round is certainly solid compensation. Not least since the29,500xpotential has been more than doubled since the first game.
Visually, both games are stunning depictions of ancient egyptian architecture. All the unique symbol removal patterns might be cool to watch, but in the end it amounts to one modifier. We would have preferred a bit more variety and innovation perhaps, but they get the job done of prolonging your winning streak. All in all, this is a follow-up well worth checking out, both for fans of the original game, and grid slot buffs in general.
