The original Big Bad Wolf was a mega success, and it also landed Quickspin the EGR award for Best Game in 2013. Nobody can accuse them of milking their success with this Christmas Special, as they have certainly waited long enough before they decided to make a clone. The math model is exactly the same, and so are the bonus features.
This is as expected with a reskin job, but we are sure many fans will enjoy the psycho-looking Wolf dressed in Santa’s clothing. The 97.34 % RTP is still solid, and this is an obvious choice for the Holidays season if you already like the original game. We certainly had a blast in our 200 spins test session, and we have to say that this title has withstood the test of time exceptionally well.
All the features are working together to keep the wolf going here too, which was part of the original game’s success formula. Swooping Reels make sure that winning symbols are removed from the reels, and replaced by new winning chances. This process will go on as long as you keep winning, and it can land you plenty of wins for the price of a single spin.
This is nothing special these days, but it was a bigger deal when the original game was first released. However, you will also benefit from the Pigs Turn Wild feature, which goes hand in hand with the Swooping Reels. Every second consecutive win will turn a pig symbol into a wild, and you can follow the progress in the meter up on the right-hand side.
True to the fairytale, there are 3 little piggie symbols in this game, and you need 6 swooping wins in a row to turn them all wild. The Pigs Turn Wild meter resets on non-winning spins, and everything starts over again. You will benefit from both Pigs Turn Wild and Swooping Reels also in the bonus round.
Speaking of, you’ll need at least 3 Santa Wolf scatters anywhere to trigger the free spins round, and you first get an initial scatter win of 3x your stake. You will then be granted 10 free spins, and you can get 10 new spins added to your total by landing 3 more scatters during the feature.
The wolf blows down the first house by default, and the little piggie escapes to the next house. You will now land moon symbols on the 5th reel, and these are collected in a meter above the reels. Collect 3 moons, and the wolf blows down the second house.
This also gives you 2 new free spins, and you need 3 more moons to blow down the third and final house and capture the piggies. This awards you with 2 new spins again, but now you will also benefit from a 2x multiplier boost of all wins. The wolf leaves with the piggies, but the feature plays out until you run out of spins.
We took it to the end of the line in our 200 spins test session, so the Wolf must have been pleased with our performance. He looks only more threatening in his Santa outfit, and we almost felt bad for those poor little piggies. Anyway, you can check out how it all went in the highlights video below.
Quickspin has certainly waited long enough before they finally re-skinned their award-winning game for the Holidays season. Big Bad Wolf was a massive and instant hit back in 2013, we have to say the game has aged extremely well. It could just as easily have been released today, as it does not feel dated at all.
Dressing the Wolf up in a Santa outfit makes him look borderline psychopathic, and this is far from the warm and fuzzy Christmas titles most developers churn out these days. Of course, the math model is identical to the original game, and the biggest drawback is the somewhat mediocre potential of 1,268x. The solid 97.34 % RTP compensates for this though, and we’re sure many players will enjoy this excuse to go piggie hunting once again.
Pros
Cons
Big Bad Wolf- is an obvious choice if you enjoy the christmas version. Everything is the same with regards to the features and the math model, but this is the original game that helped catapult Quickspin onto the iGaming scene in a major way.
Little Pigs Strike Back- is the game to play if you feel sympathy with the 3 little piggies. They are all grown up in this Microgaming title, and they are busy hunting down the Wolf. You can look forward to expanding wild respins, as well as a bonus round where the wilds nudge in place.
Carol of the Elves- is a brand new Yggdrasil Christmas reskin of their mega hit game Valley of the Gods. You will unblock reel positions per win here, which is kind of like unwrapping a present. This leads to respins and eventually a progressive multiplier, once all the tiles are unblocked.
